Salisbury audiences have not had much exposure to the work of the exceptional playwright Yasmina Reza who had such huge success with her play Art which always plays to capacity houses. Studio Theatre in Ashley Road is about to remedy the situation by presenting another of her intriguing plays, God of Carnage, a black comedy, also set in Paris.

This is about a situation in which we could all find ourselves. What happens when someone else's child attacks and injures our own offspring? Do we respond with civility and maturity? Are we understanding? Or are we furious? Could we become ridiculous and hilarious in our fury?

Critics have described God of Carnage as 'deliciously acid like a lemon drop', 'a heavyweight boxing match' and 'a hoot'. Not surprisingly in the circumstances, there is some bad language. The play has no interval and ends at approximately 9 p.m. and the bar will still be open!

Directed by Jackie Pilkington and Ann Acton, the cast of four are well-known to Studio audiences - Pam Edmund, Keith Edmund, Sam Luckman and James Paterson take on board this tricky situation.

Original and atmospheric theme music has been composed for the play by Rupert Egerton-Smith.

The play runs from 9 - 14 July at 7.30 p.m. Tickets from Salisbury Information Centre, Fish Row, Salisbury. Tel. 01722 342860
Keywords: god of carnage, james paterson, keith edmund, pam goldsbrough, samantha luckman
